STARLIGHT POPS COMBO

Phil HallmanStarlight Pops Choir’s rhythm section is led by Phil Hallman, an accomplished musical director, rehearsal pianist and musician. Phil’s training includes over 27 years of piano, 20 years of saxophone, and 14 years in musical theatre including an apprenticeship with the Orpheus Musical Theatre Society in Ottawa.

Phil has been involved in numerous musical theatre productions including high school, community, and children's presentations for over 14 years. Some of his credits as Music Director include Victoria Operatic Society's productions of "Beauty and the Beast" and "West Side Story", Victoria Youth Musical Theatre's productions of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," "42nd Street" and "Bye Bye Birdie," and Stagewest Players’ productions of "Cabaret" and "My Fair Lady". He has also conducted musicals for Stelly's Secondary School and Esquimalt School.

Phil runs Victoria Youth Musical Theatre specializing in intensive musical theatre classes and summer camps for children and youth. He also runs Black Box Productions. In 2010 Phil happily took on ownership of Con Brio Music in Fairfield, which offers music lessons for all ages. Phil is also the Music Director for the First Unitarian Church of Victoria.


Peter Rothhauser, keyboards/piano is a career musician who’s played on cruise ships with The Platters, The Drifters, The Coasters and countless others. He’s entertained Prince Charles and Camilla at Government House, played for can-can dancers at Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Casino in the Yukon, and done just about everything in between. Peter appears regularly at the Fairmont Empress Hotel and in musical theatre productions around town. Peter serves as Pianist/Organist at Gordon Head United Church, and in his spare time he runs The Really Big Recording Studio, a full-service recording facility in Metchosin.


Fergus Heywood, drums is a long-time percussionist on the Victoria scene. He has performed a wide range of musical styles from country to rock to jazz, big-band swing, pop, musical theatre and symphonic. For many years he was Tympanist and Principal with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra. He has taught percussion privately and for the Department of Music – Percussion Studies at the University of Victoria.


George Koenig, bass is a music teacher at North Saanich Middle School in Sidney. He moved to Victoria in 1994 after completing double bass studies with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra bassist Ken Friedman at UBC. He has played in symphony orchestras across BC, including the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, and currently plays in jazz and rock combos in Victoria as well as doing freelance work.
